Rami Ranger Awarded – Commander British Empire (CBE).

Her Majesty the Queen is graciously pleased to confer the Most Excellent Order of Commander of the British Empire (CBE) to Raminder Singh Ranger popularly known as Rami Ranger, Chairman of Sun Mark Ltd, Sea Air & Land Forwarding Ltd and Bulldog Energy Drink Ltd in the New Year’s Honours List 2016 for outstanding service to business and community cohesion in the UK.

Rami Ranger was awarded the MBE in 1995. His Company, Sun Mark Ltd is the only Company in Britain to have won an unprecedented 5 consecutive Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade from 2009 to 2013.

His book ‘From Nothing to Everything’, charts his rags to riches story from the time of his birth in Gujranwala (now Pakistan) to his present day life in Britain. The book begins with the dramatic flight from the ancestral home during the turmoil of the partition of India in 1947 and describes the assassination of his father Shaheed Nanak Singh ( who was a freedom fighter and opposed the break-up of India on the basis of religion. The hardship he faced during his childhood is documented along with the pivotal role played by his mother, who worked as a teacher and was responsible in shaping him into a fine upstanding individual. In 1971 he emigrated to England and overcame prejudice to achieve success on a scale that he could hardly have imagined in his wildest dreams. He has been honoured by Her Majesty a record eight times. No other Briton can claim this accolade.

Having founded his first Company with just £2 and a typewriter in 1987, Rami Ranger now oversees Sun Mark Ltd, Sea Air and Land Forwarding Ltd, and Bulldog Energy Drink Ltd with a turnover of over £200 million a year.

“My story shows that one does not need a rich father, an elite education or the old schoolboy network to help one in life. What one needs is self-respect, work ethics, commitment, vision and empathy for others,” Ranger says in the book.

Ranger is Chairman of the British-Sikh Association where he promotes the ethos of Sikh Gurus of peaceful co-existence.

Ranger is a firm believer in philanthropy and giving back to society which has brought him his success. Such recent endeavours include:

  • Donating £250,000 to the London South Bank University to help set up the Dr. Rami Ranger Centre for Graduate Entrepreneurs to support the next generation of budding entrepreneurs.
  • Donating £100,000 for the Gandhi Statue in Parliament Square, London which was unveiled last year by Hon. Arun Jaitley, Indian Finance Minister and the Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. David Cameron MP.
  • Ranger is a Trustee of the Gandhi Memorial Trust, which was formed to raise funds for the Mahatma Gandhi statue.
  • Ranger is also a Fellow of the Prince’s Trust where he mentors disaffected youth and to whom he has donated £100,000.
  • Donating £60,000 to the Indian Gymkhana to help construct a gym for visiting sportsmen and women.
  • Donating £40,000 to the University of West London to help with their library building and to support British education.

Two years after launching the MABA, we are re-launching ourselves as UKABC, and at the same time strengthening its senior team with the addition of a new president and vice president.

This strategic decision is seen as a natural progression for the “Middlesex Asian Business Association” as it further develops its expanding roster of activities in the marketplace both UK and Asia. This includes our hugely successful Networking Events, launching our active presence and offices in India, China, Bangladesh, Turkey, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka, the new UK ABC Awards, webinars, round tables debates, plus magazine and newsletter publishing both in print and online.

The re-launch as MABA coincides with the development of a fresh identity, a new website which goes live today (January 9), and the renaming of MABA UK Org ( as UK ABC, with the first issue of the new magazine being published next month in time for the proposed launch party on 25th of Feb 2015

At the same time international business expert Junaid Ahmed will be joining UKABC as President and Sudeep Sakalle will be joining UKABC as Vice President, they will work alongside Chairman Taha Kutay who founded the MABA under the NABA banner back in the summer of 2013.

UKABC Promotes India Corporate Internship Opportunity

An Opportunity to work with Stalwarts of Indian Industry in one of the Fastest Growing Economies of the World

​UKABC is pleased to share with you the latest initiative of OIFC (Overseas Indian Facilitation Centre) to engage senior level students of Indian Origin/ descent: The India Corporate Internship Programme. The initiative was launched by the Government of India during Regional Pravasi Bharatiya Divas on 14 November, 2015 at Los Angeles, California.

OIFC has tied up with 23 Top Indian Corporates to offer 60 paid internship positions to students of Indian Origin (PIO/OCI) or students with an Indian passport but who have been studying for some time in foreign universities. This programme is mostly aimed at those students who have completed their 1st year of MBA or are pursuing Technical education/Engineering.

Most of the companies have promised that the interns will work in a multi-cultural environment, exposure to CXO level and experienced senior staff of the company & provide solutions challenging projects that will add value to an interns overall experience. They will also be providing stipend and accommodation in most of the cases.

The objective of this initiative is to offer students of Indian origin a window of opportunity to experience Indian Corporate culture, meet decision makers in the industry, through paid internships. This programme is aimed at Indian origin students, typically second generation, who may know of India, but are not familiar.

A flyer of the initiative is also attached in PDF format, which contains a link to the e-brochure with more information about the 23 companies along with the details of the internship projects on offer by them.

Over 270 of Britain’s leading business leaders have signed an open letter to the Prime Minster demanding the Government implement the Airports Commission’s clean and unanimous recommendation to expand Heathrow.

Dear Prime Minister,

The independent Airports Commission has made a clear recommendation that Heathrow is the right location for airport expansion. Heathrow’s new expansion plan ensures this can be done sustainably. The Commission’s final recommendation follows nearly three years of extensive consultation, evidence gathering and analysis. Now your Government must support this recommendation to expand Heathrow.

Heathrow puts Britain right at the heart of the global economy and has helped it become one of the world’s great trading nations.

But Heathrow – the UK’s only hub airport – has been operating at capacity for the past decade. This lack of hub capacity is holding back the growth of UK businesses who want to fly directly to emerging markets; trade and transport their goods via air freight; create more jobs and connect to the UK’s regions.

The Commission is clear: further delay will be increasingly costly and will be seen, nationally and internationally, as a sign that the UK is unwilling or unable to take the steps needed to maintain its position as a well-connected open trading economy in the twenty first century.

Now is the time for Government decision and action. Your Government must support UK businesses by implementing the Airports Commission’s recommendation and expand Heathrow.

GOPIO signs MoUs with NISU, Gujarat University

GOPIO has signed two MOUs with the National Indian Students Union (NISU) of the United Kingdom and Upasana School of Performing Arts of Gujarat University (USPA-GU), based in Ahmedabad, India.

GOPIO has signed two MOUs with the National Indian Students Union (NISU) of the United Kingdom and Upasana School of Performing Arts of Gujarat University (USPA-GU), based in Ahmedabad, India.

The NISU MOU furthers the objectives of both GOPIO and NISU to protect the interests of students of the Indian Diaspora. It utilizes the outreach and strengths of GOPIO and its Youth Council in collaboration with the initiatives and advocacy of NISU.

GOPIO and NISU recognize that there is considerable scope and opportunities for mutual cooperation to further their collaborative objectives and mandates. With the intention of facilitating greater awareness of issues related to students and youth in the Indian Diaspora, their respective countries of domicile and India, as well as to increase engagement of NRIs and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) students of the Indian Diaspora, GOPIO and NISU seek to collaborate on student and youth engagement and outreach to further these shared objectives of mutual interests.

The MOU was coordinated and supported by with Taha Kutay, Chairman (UKABC), president of GOPIO Greater London Chapter, and signed by Sanam Arora, president of NISU.

USPA-GU is a unique department catering to global outreach and internationalizing Indian academics, art, culture and traditions.

The areas of collaboration under this MOU include: Exchange of visits by nominees and academic staff for the purpose of teaching, research, performances and conducting workshops; exchange programs for students/ nominees; associating with GOPIO cultural council for promoting artists; participation in lectures, training and academic meetings; exchange of research materials in the fields of mutual interest; exchange of related publications in the field of performing arts; Exploring potential program collaborations.
